Problem
A client came to us with a common Reddit problem: the biggest target subreddits in their niche looked independent from the outside, but in practice they were quietly affiliated with competitors.
Posts and comments mentioning the client’s brand were removed. Even helpful discussions that included the client’s product could be suppressed before they had a chance to reach the audience.
The client needed access to the same audience, but without depending on competitor-influenced moderators.
For confidentiality reasons, we cannot name the client, niche, or subreddits. Reddit can retroactively remove or suppress campaign assets, and exposing the exact work publicly would put active results at risk.
Solution
Instead of trying to force visibility inside hostile communities, we launched and managed two owned subreddits.
The communities were partially branded, but their main positioning was built around commercial search intent.
We did not want these subreddits to look like empty brand channels. The goal was to build living communities where the audience would eventually create the majority of the content themselves.

We seeded the communities with posts designed to travel beyond the subscriber feed. Some of our own posts reached audiences outside the subreddit and helped bring in new members. - Creating conditions for organic posting
The objective was not to make the client responsible for all content forever. We structured the communities so real users would start posting, asking questions, sharing opinions, and discussing the category. - Running targeted outreach
We used our outreach agent to invite relevant users, especially active members of competitor subreddits. Around 10% of targeted users became subscribers. - Building search and LLM assets
The communities were created not only for Reddit reach, but also for Google and LLM visibility around commercial and branded queries.
Results
- One subreddit grew to 15,000 subscribers in 3 months. Now it generates around 300,000 monthly reads across all published posts.

- The second subreddit grew to 3,000 subscribers in 3 months. Now it generates around 30,000 monthly reads across all published posts.

- The communities now contain 600+ posts generated by the target audience.
- Only around 20 posts each month were seeded by us, but those posts helped create reach beyond the subreddit and attract the right users.
- Around 10% of invited targets — active members of competitor subreddits — became subscribers.
- The client gained owned Reddit assets where the brand and category narrative could be shaped without depending on competitor-controlled moderation.
Why It Worked
The most important outcome was that the target audience started generating content inside the client’s owned Reddit ecosystem. That made the subreddits look and behave like real communities, not brand-owned promotional pages.
Our seeded posts helped create initial momentum and reach outside the subscriber base, but the long-term value came from organic activity: users posting, discussing, asking questions, and creating new pages that can be indexed by Google and referenced by LLMs.
